Regarding The Rejection of the December 2017 Erie Snowfall Record

By Commissioner in Miscellaneous | 08/22/2018

In December of 2017, Fantasy Blizzard players hit it big on both 12/25 and 12/26. High scores were given for the recorded 33.8" on the 25th and 26.5" on the 26th. At the time, it was announced this had broken a Pennsylvania state record for the most snow in a 24 hour period. In the months since, a committee was assembled to discuss the validity of the record. It was determined by the committee that the measurements were not valid and the old 1958 record would stand. In the end, those two daily snowfall measurements were tossed and a measurements by a nearby spotter were used to come up with a total monthly snow total. Unfortunately, the spotter did not record measurements from 12am to 12am, which Fantasy Blizzard uses.

The 2017-2018 season winner AtmosFeerick24 selected Erie on the 25th. Obviously a significant reduction in snow total on the 25th could knock him out of 1st place. Since measurements by the spotter were not recorded from 12am to 12am and the location was not the Erie airport, it's our decision to not make any changes to the 2017-2018 season. AtmosFeerick24 remains the winner and the rest of the final standings remain that, final.

As a reminder, the 2018-2019 Fantasy Blizzard season will commence on December 1st. Registration for the upcoming season will open on the morning of November 1st. As usual, we'll turn everything on for a few weeks of preseason for players to do any fine tuning to their winter weather forecasting. New players will also be able to learn how to play the game during this time period without having to worry about ruining an entire season with a few poor picks early on.
